Prayer + Fasting 2024: Mercy in the Morning

The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
“The LORD is my portion,” says my soul,
“therefore I will hope in him.” Lamentations 3:22-24

We’ve been meditating on a thought this week: His mercy is for me. It’s a simple statement and maybe doesn’t feel that deep or profound. Except, it is. Will you think about that for just a bit with us this morning?

His mercy is for you.

In one incomprehensible, selfless, wonderful, deeply painful act— Jesus poured out His mercy, over you. Not just on that day, on that Golgotha hill, or just for those who were there in that moment of time— but the mercy He gave was the most supernatural, divine kind. It’s the kind He knew we would need a new supply of each and every day. Today, His mercy is new. It’s different from the mercy He gave yesterday. The word says that His mercies are new every single morning. He meets us in the darkness, without fail, with new light!

What is mercy? Mercy means that God does not judge us according to justice but according to His amazing grace. In our world and under the law, holiness could not look at us or consider us. But God, who so deeply loved us, wanted to look upon us; He wanted to have relationship with YOU. We were lost, so desperately lost, and His mercy and love came to our rescue.

We’ve heard it said about God’s mercy that it reaches the least (Zacchaeus), the last (the thief on the cross), and the lost (any who respond to his offer of mercy and grace).

What if we placed ourselves within those spaces today— we were the least, we were the last, and we were the lost. And yet, His mercy lifted us into the Light so that we could know Him and live a life in His love. He gave it all for love. He gave it all FOR YOU. He doesn’t offer us stale mercy, dull hope, or distant love. Every single day, He meets us in the morning with fresh, brand-new mercy that applies to and covers the deepest parts of who we are.

Let us never forget how intimately personal the cross was and still is in our everyday life. Where would you be without His mercy? Where would you be if He hadn’t rescued you?

The power of the gift of mercy comes alive when we realize how despairingly we need it. And, how much we still need it. His mercy is for you. Will you fully accept the wonder of that miracle today?

“I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever;
With my mouth will I make known Your faithfulness to all generations.
For I have said, “Mercy shall be built up forever;
Your faithfulness You shall establish in the very heavens.” Psalm 89:1-2

We are called to be vessels of God’s unending mercy to the world around us. But first, we must pray to understand how greatly we need His mercy for ourselves each and every day.

Will you read Ephesians 2:4-10 this morning? If you want to go a little deeper, here is a great study tool on mercy (click to open).

We couldn’t choose just one song, because both of these have been monumental in our walk with Jesus: Because of Christ and Mercy of God (click on title to listen). We pray you will remember with us that it’s in His death we are alive! May we not forget!!

We are praying for this time to be purposeful and powerful for you. Don’t forget, the church will be open Wednesday-Friday 7am-7pm so you can come to worship, pray, or receive prayer. Take communion and spend some time at the cross. God wants to do a new thing in you and through you!

We’ll meet together Friday night at 7pm for Worship Night!

We love you,
