Prayer + Fasting 2024: Out With The Old

Good morning! It’s a great week to leave the past behind, begin anew, and see God move. We’re starting with a simple phrase: out with the old.

"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new." 2 Corinthians 5:17

It’s time for something new.

As humans, we like familiar things, safe things, things that don’t make us question ourselves or our abilities. We have a tendency to choose safety, and our own convoluted attempts at security can cause us to sin. Why? Because doing what we’ve always done and staying safe isn’t a space for obedience to the Father. So, often, we get stuck. Stuck in what was or even what we thought should be. It requires supernatural transformation to get out of a rut or unhealthy pattern. As hard as we may try, we cannot step into new things without new revelation from the Spirit of God and His word.

Today, we truly believe God is calling each of us to go a new way. What does that mean to you?

To begin, we want to see and hear the Lord clearly and get the clutter of life and our own mess cleaned up. We always start this week with the same thing: repentance. We start with repentance because it’s the only way to reconnect the parts that have been damaged and disconnected from the Father’s heart.

In Matthew 4:17, when Jesus began to preach, he said, “Repent (metanoia), for the kingdom of heaven has come near." In Acts 3:19, Peter said to the people, “Repent (metanoia), then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out."

Metanoia means “to change direction, or reverse and go in an opposite way”.

Every single thing that may be holding us back from fresh, new revelation— let’s lay it at the altar today. We’re changing directions. We want to go the opposite way from our sin. Will you pray with us this morning for the conviction of the Holy Spirit to help bring up anything that might be hindering us from going a new way?

Ungodly thought patterns, repeated behaviors, familiar fears, hidden pride, safety nets, addictions of comfort, bondages of self-protection, strongholds of disappointment and whatever else may be blocking the pathway ahead— IT’S OUT WITH THE OLD!

Ezekiel 36:26 says, “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.”

Father, forgive us. We repent for our sins. We want to make things right with you, we want a fresh start today. For all the ways we fall short, you sent your Son to redeem us. He came to restore us, to reconcile us to you. He came to make the old ways NEW. Help us to understand even more today what your sacrifice cost and what it means for our new life with your Spirit. We pray that our hearts will soften to your voice, and every stone of sin will be removed so that we may see, hear and obey you with new clarity.

Will you read Psalm 51 with us today?
