What is CarePortal About?
Making or keeping families together. CarePortal brings the needs of hurting children and families in our community to our attention. Child welfare workers uncover the needs. CarePortal makes local churches aware, giving us a real-time opportunity to respond. This is the gospel in action!
How Does CarePortal Work?
Simply. The child welfare worker determines the needs that need to be met to keep a family together, a family who desperately wants to stay together. They send those needs to us, the local church, and we inform our members what is needed to keep this family whole (ie beds, pots & pans, etc). Those items are donated and we connect with the family to deliver the items needed. Relationships are formed/developed. We get to see and show the love of God to a family in our community. The family gets to stay together. We get to share life in a meaningful way.
Does CarePortal Really Work?
ABSOLUTELY!! Since the launch on March 2, 2015, 1,067 churches have helped 3,664 families stay together, impacting 8,690 children in 12 states. How many of those are here in our area? Since the launch in Missouri 154 churches have helped 602 families remain or get back together, impacting 1,465 children. That is the heart of God – making or keeping families together.
Who can help? YOU!! Maybe you’re an excellent communicator or connector, maybe you’re a thrifty shopper, maybe you have items around your home you would like to donate to a great cause, or perhaps you have a truck and could help make deliveries, or you would like to deliver the items and get to the know the families. Guess what? We need you!! There’s something meaningful to do for everyone. Want to be a part but aren’t sure how? How do we know the children should stay with the family?
The family structure was created by God. In most cases, it is better for the child/children’s development and overall wellbeing to remain with their families. In the families whom we will be service, the Department of Family Services (DFS) has worked with each family. They know the background and have determined along with the parents, that this it is in the best interest of the children that the family remains together.
How do the items we donate make a difference?
The items that are on the requests are not frivolous but are required items for the families to remain together.
What if only some of the items are received for a family?
If our local church is not able to meet the needs of a particular family, we will share that need with another church, and together, those needs can be met.
How do we know the items are going to the family?
We will deliver the items directly to the family, allowing us to build a lasting relationship with those around us.
Who can help with this outreach?
Everyone! Singles, young, mature in years, couples, families, everyone is called to love those around them. We have a practical way for you to help. This is a great opportunity for all of us to come together to help meet the needs of those in our communities. It is a perfect opportunity for families to serve together; whether shopping, going through gently used items at home that can meet the needs submitted, or delivering the items to the family, there is an opportunity for everyone to join in.
