Retrain Your Mouth
Everything begins with a word.
Words are of utmost importance to God. It was by the Word of His mouth that creation began. What if we began to live with the understanding of the power of what we speak? The world would begin to change, without doubt.
Words satisfy the mind as much as fruit does the stomach;
good talk is as gratifying as a good harvest.
Words kill, words give life;
they’re either poison or fruit—you choose.
Proverbs 18:20-21 MSG
What a powerful scripture! What comes from our mouth is a clear indication of the condition of our heart. As we have been talking this week, we are choosing to allow God permission to access all areas in order to rehab those things in need of renewal and restoration. Every day builds upon the one before. We have looked at the patterns of our daily lives, the thoughts that have been leading us, and today, we are going through speech re-training to align our mouths with God’s Word.
This story in Ezekiel is one of the most powerful pictures of how what we speak can literally bring life— even to dead things! As we read this together today, be aware and participate. Are there areas in your life that you have felt aren’t vibrant and alive? Have you been reluctant to look at them, speak to them, and call them to life? Because, we promise you— THERE IS LIFE-GIVING POWER IN YOUR WORDS! Watch what happens as Elijah partners with God in this moment:
Ezekiel 37:1-14 NLT
The Lord took hold of me, and I was carried away by the Spirit of the Lord to a valley filled with bones. He led me all around among the bones that covered the valley floor. They were scattered everywhere across the ground and were completely dried out. Then He asked me, “Son of man, can these bones become living people again?”
“O Sovereign Lord,” I replied, “You alone know the answer to that.”
Then He said to me, “Speak a prophetic message to these bones and say, ‘Dry bones, listen to the Word of the Lord! This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Look! I am going to put breath into you and make you live again! I will put flesh and muscles on you and cover you with skin. I will put breath into you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord.’”
So I spoke this message, just as He told me. Suddenly as I spoke, there was a rattling noise all across the valley. The bones of each body came together and attached themselves as complete skeletons. Then as I watched, muscles and flesh formed over the bones. Then skin formed to cover their bodies, but they still had no breath in them.
Then He said to me, “Speak a prophetic message to the winds, son of man. Speak a prophetic message and say, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Come, O breath, from the four winds! Breathe into these dead bodies so they may live again.’”
So I spoke the message as He commanded me, and breath came into their bodies. They all came to life and stood up on their feet—a great army.
Then He said to me, “Son of man, these bones represent the people of Israel. They are saying, ‘We have become old, dry bones—all hope is gone. Our nation is finished.’ Therefore, prophesy to them and say, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: O my people, I will open your graves of exile and cause you to rise again. Then I will bring you back to the land of Israel. When this happens, O my people, you will know that I am the Lord. I will put my Spirit in you, and you will live again and return home to your own land. Then you will know that I, the Lord, have spoken, and I have done what I said. Yes, the Lord has spoken!’”
Proverbs 10:11 reminds us that “the words of the godly are a life-giving fountain!” We, being made in the image of God, have the same power as we partner with Him, to bring forth life-giving fountains to dry places with our words.
Don’t be discouraged when you feel like Elijah did— that you’re out in the middle of a dead place! There is purpose in your placement! He’s called you to be right where you are, with vision to see the dead brought back to life. God wants you to see His power come forth around you, and He wants to do that by USING YOU. Today, good things are happening! Take some time to look at your life, and those things around you. Like the people of Israel, maybe you have said, “all hope is gone”— but today you have the power to CHOOSE to speak life into them once again. God is not finished with your story, your children, your family, your church, your health, or your future. He is calling us to SPEAK LIFE!! Try it, and watch and see what He does!
Lord, we pray that our speech will come in alignment with Your Word today. No matter what it looks like, we know that You are the God of LIFE and MIRACLES. May our words be in partnership with You as we speak to our own spirits and our circumstances today and prophesy: This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Look! I am going to put breath into you and make you live again!
We are standing with you for breakthrough and are reminding you that YOU ARE CHOSEN, just as Elijah was, to BRING FORTH NEW LIFE.
Listen to this today and agree with your mouth, as You speak— So Will I.
We love you,
